Solving the Housing Crisis: A Regional Summit on Equitable Solutions

The inaugural regional affordable housing summit: Solving the Housing Crisis: A Regional Summit on Equitable Solutions, was held on Wednesday, March 22, 2023, in Aspen, Colorado, at Aspen Meadows Resort.

The event aimed to define and address the dire housing crisis currently facing communities of the Roaring Fork and Colorado River Valleys. Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork Valley convenes citizens, businesses, local government, non-profits, and the philanthropic community. The summit’s goal is to engage participants in identifying immediate and scalable solutions to the pressing issue of stable, affordable housing for our workforce and communities. Habitat for Humanity invited the broader community to engage in this timely conversation.

The summit featured a morning session with experts who define the impacts of the current housing crisis, followed by an afternoon panel discussion with local and state leaders, affordable housing developers, and philanthropists actively working to address this issue. Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork Valley has invited a national leader in public-private partnerships who will showcase the affordable home communities they are building. Habitat for Humanity Roaring Fork Valley presented our scalable net-zero communities and introduced homeowners and other residents to share their personal housing journeys. Gail Schwartz, Habitat President, and other notable local housing leaders moderated the summit.

The summit was intended to be a call to action for the philanthropic and broader community to engage and support immediate and scalable solutions to address the housing crisis.
